Judge indicates that he wants to keep gag order in Killeen capital murder case


During a status hearing on Wednesday in the county’s oldest unresolved capital murder case, a Bell County judge indicated that he would like to keep the gag order that he put in place in 2015.
Defense attorneys for Marvin Louis Guy, who has been held in the Bell County Jail since being booked more than seven years ago, filed a motion on June 4 to have the order lifted. The gag order prevents members of the media from obtaining comments outside of court from attorneys or any other people involved in the case.
The 27th Judicial District Court judge indicated that he would like to keep it in place. ....

Killeen capital murder case lingers 7 years with defendant in county jail

Others urge folks not to forget the victim, Charles “Chuck” Dinwiddie, who was a respected Killeen Police Department detective and SWAT team member. He left behind a wife and two children.
Marvin Louis Guy, 56, is accused of shooting Dinwiddie on May 9, 2014, when officers tried to serve a no-knock narcotics warrant at Guy’s home on Circle M Drive in Killeen.
Dinwiddie died two days later. Three other officers were wounded during the incident.
Guy, a suspected drug dealer, has said that he did not know it was police officers who were entering the apartment in the early-morning hours and that he fired in self-defense. ....

No-knocks no more in Killeen
The Killeen City Council voted Tuesday to approve an ordinance banning the Killeen Police Department from using or participating in no-knock warrants.
The decision was made by a 6-1 vote, with Councilman Steve Harris voting against.
Two people have died in Killeen no-knock raids, which sometimes include broken glass, explosives to blow off doors, and a lot of guns — mostly in the hands of police, but sometimes in the hands of the residents inside.
Marvin Guy, 56, is in Bell County Jail, accused of fatally shooting KPD Detective Charles “Chuck” Dinwiddie during a pre-dawn no-knock narcotics raid on Guy’s west Killeen residence. Dinwiddie and three other officers were shot on May 9, 2014, and Dinwiddie died in a hospital two days later. ....
