Two Chinese activists who kept an online repository of banned articles on the coronavirus pandemic stood trial in Beijing on Tuesday, while a journalist was attacked by unidentified thugs in Hong Kong.
Chen Mei and Cai Wei stood trial at the Chaoyang District People s Court in Beijing, on charges of picking quarrels and stirring up trouble, a charge frequently used to target peaceful critics of the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
According to Chen Mei s brother, Chen Kun, their mother and Cai Wei s father were allowed to attend the trial, which lasted around 100 minutes.
The pair were accused in the indictment of posting around 600 articles to their Terminus2049 page on Github, creating a repository of censored and deleted articles about the early weeks of the pandemic in China, according to the indictment against them. ....

The State Department criticized the violent assault on a reporter with the Hong Kong Epoch Times as “unacceptable” and urged a thorough investigation.
“The United States condemns the recent attack committed against an Epoch Times journalist,” a State Department spokesperson told The Epoch Times on May 11. “Attacks against journalists are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. We urge the authorities to complete a full investigation of this incident as well as the recent attack on the Epoch Times’ Hong Kong printing facilities.”

LOS ANGELES About 180 practitioners of the spiritual discipline Falun Gong gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate on May 3, calling for the halt to a slanderous media campaign in Hong Kong.
Practitioners of Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, quietly protested for more than an hour. They held signs that read “truthfulness, compassion, tolerance” the main tenants of Falun Gong as around 20 cars with Falun Gong decorations circled the rally.
The protest was sparked by a recent editorial from Ta Kung Pao, a pro-Chinese Communist Party (CCP) newspaper in Hong Kong, which published eight articles slandering Falun Gong and called on the government to ban the spiritual practice in Hong Kong. ....

New Zealand Falun Gong practitioners will protest outside the Chinese Consulate in Auckland on Tuesday, 4 May. They will be condemning the CCP’s escalated attacks on Falun Gong that have been taking place in Hong Kong over the last several weeks.
Last week, a pro-CCP newspaper Ta Kung Pao launched a slanderous campaign against Falun Gong. At the same time, the president of Hong Kong Falun Dafa Association, Sarah Liang was intimidated and harassed by two men who were alleged to be staff members from Ta Kung Pao.
The CCP’s attacks on Falun Gong are malicious, violent and well organized. Prior to these two incidents, at least 10 Falun Gong’s information stands were destroyed by CCP thugs. ....
