Newshub, other news outlets launch programme to develop and hire more Māori, Pasifika journalists Newshub 7 hrs ago © Provided by Newshub Newshub is partnering with three other news organisations to launch a journalism training scheme to foster the talents of young reporters from Māori, Pasifika and other ethnic minority backgrounds under-represented in Aotearoa s media industry. The programme, named Te Rito, is a collaboration between Māori Television, the Pacific Media Network, Newshub and NZME and is backed by the Government s $55 million Public Interest Journalism Fund. Starting February 2022, Te Rito will see 25 journalists trained, developed and hired to report and share the important perspectives and stories of Aotearoa .

Media Partners Launch Unique Journalism Training Scheme

Friday, 16 July 2021, 3:53 pm An unprecedented collaboration between four of New Zealand s biggest media organisations will train, develop and hire 25 journalists to report and share the important perspectives and stories of Aotearoa. Māori Television, Pacific Media Network, Newshub and NZME (New Zealand Media and Entertainment) – with support from NZ On Air via the Public Interest Journalism Fund – will establish a unique cadetship and development programme called Te Rito. The purpose of Te Rito is to foster and develop talented journalists from Māori, Pacific and other communities traditionally under-represented in media.
