[email protected] HOLLIDAYSBURG Blair County started mailing ballots Monday to 5,558 county residents who sought to vote by mail in the May 18 primary. The option, embraced last year by about 16,000 county voters interested in avoiding COVID-19 risks and in casting ballots in the hotly contested presidential race, is attracting some interest this year for the upcoming primary. That’s when Republican and Democratic voters will select candidates for state judicial, county, municipal and school board posts, and when all registered voters can weigh in on four statewide ballot questions. Blair County mailed letters in February to about 15,000 registered voters who last year indicated an interest in receiving future applications to vote by mail, Director of Elections Sarah Seymour told the elections board at its recent meeting. ....

[email protected] HOLLIDAYSBURG The Blair County Elections and Voter Registration Office has moved out of the courthouse to the highway yard on Loop Road. The move means that candidates seeking petitions to run for office this spring and those seeking in-person assistance with voter registration tasks will need to head to the office’s new location, 279A Loop Road, in the highway yard. The office, inside the highway yard building, has an entrance on the Loop Road side of the structure. Director of Elections Sarah Seymour said the new location, which presents plenty of parking for visitors, has been working well for the department’s staff. ....
Wednesday, January 6, 2021 - 9:05 am OGDENSBURG Legend says that Madame America Vespucci designed the home now known as the Bishop’s Residence, according to City of Ogdensburg Historian Julie Madlin. She says the double house, built for $25,000 in 1855, was the home of two prominent families as well as several bishops of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg. In the center was the land office for the Parish iron and lead mines of Rossie. The Rosseel family occupied the east house. John Rosseel was born in Ogdensburg in 1822, son of Joseph and Louisa Rosseel. His father,Joseph, was the land agent for the Parish estate for 50 years and later John followed in his father’s footsteps . In 1849 he married Lydia Raymond who was born in 1817 in Potsdam, NY and they had 3 children. As a child Mr. Rosseel was sick and became crippled as a result, but went on to captain two of Parish’s schooners until his father’s death when he took over as ....
