United Way of 1000 Lakes is excited to announce that the city of Bovey has been selected as this yearâs Day of Action project site. Day of Action, now in its ninth year, brings together volunteers from all over the Itasca area to complete revitalization, outreach, and minor maintenance projects in area neighborhoods. This year sees the return to a traditional one-day event, after last yearâs projects were spread out over several days to adhere to health and safety guidelines. United Way will again partner with Itasca County Habitat for Humanity and Community and Economic Development Associates (CEDA), as well as the City of Bovey. Habitat will work with local homeowners to complete minor repair, maintenance, and landscaping projects through its Home Preservation program, while CEDA will work with small business owners and city leadership to plan the refurbishment of storefronts and public spaces.  Deer River Fire Department Chief Jordan Osse stated at Monday s regular city council meeting, that a recruitment event on March 3, 2021 will be held at the fire hall. âWe must have had 100 shares on there [Facebook],â Osse said. âHoping we can get a handful there. Iâve made a couple calls to the banks, for them to put the message on the reader board. Hoping for a good turnout.â  Firefighters will be present to answer questions and give a tour of the fire hall from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be provided.  Hourly pay, paid training and retirement, with no obligation is included.  ....

So now there s work underway to create a northeast Minnesota historical mine tour. What we re going to do is identify about 30 active, inactive, and reclaimed mine sites, explained Meg Christianson, executive director of Visit Grand Rapids. A new way to enjoy the history of the mines is a project that s now underway. WDIO Those sites will be filmed and photographed in all of the seasons, and put together in an interactive website.
