Protesters: Afghan Govt Reluctant to Defend Media
Journalists in Afghanistan on Saturday criticized the Afghan government for its reluctance to protect the journalist community amid the recent spate of targeted killings.
 
This came hours after an angry mob, including the imam of a mosque, attacked Zohra Radio, a local radio station in the city of Kunduz, damaging equipment and the building.
 
 
 
“In the past, we were afraid of armed opponents, but now we feel fear from our own people,” said Haseeb Hasas, a journalist in the northeastern province of Kunduz.
 
“The attack that happened to the radio station in Kunduz has gravely concerned us,” said Hedayatullah Ziarmal, the director of Radio Kunduz. ....

Mural Painted in Protest Against Killing of Journalists
A deaf Afghan painter named Milad Mohammadi has painted the portrait of former TOLOnews’ presenter Yama Siawash on a wall in Kabul city to protest the recent attacks on journalists in Afghanistan.
 
The painter describes the journalists as the heroes of press freedom in Afghanistan, asking the Afghan government to probe the murder of journalists.
 
Meanwhile, a number of journalists and members of the civil society in various provinces signed a petition asking the UN Security Council to task a commission to probe cases of murders of Afghan journalists.
 
“The journalists are those people who raise up show the pain of the people,” said Ghulam Jailani, the father of the artist. ....

RSF to Approach Intl Courts Over Afghan Journalist Deaths
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) stated that the Afghan government does not have the capacity to investigate the murder cases of Afghan journalists,  and the organization will lodge a complaint with the International courts
This comes as the Afghan government has been insisting that the Taliban were behind the attacks on the Afghan journalists, something the Taliban have always denied.
The Taliban on Wednesday released a statement in which the group rejected any involvement in the spate of targeted killings that have taken the lives of many journalists and civil society activists in the country. ....

7 Journalists, 1 Media Worker Killed in 2020 in Afghanistan
A report indicates that four anchors, three reporters and a cameraman have lost their lives in terrorist incidents in different parts of the country in 2020. This number was similar to 2019 but the level of threats to journalists and media workers has been unprecedentedly high in recent months and continues unabated. 
The Afghanistan Journalists Center, in a report published Saturday, says in 2020 Daesh was responsible for killing two anchors, the Taliban was responsible for killing one reporter and a cameraman, and unknown armed men were responsible for killing two anchors. 
According to the report, the perpetrators of some of the attacks have not been identified so far.   ....
