Congressmen want Biden to retain John Milhiser in short term

Congressmen want Biden to retain John Milhiser in short term
February 11, 2021 GMT
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) Two Republican congressmen say the U.S. attorney in central Illinois appointed by former President Donald Trump should remain on the job until his replacement is approved by the U.S. Senate.
Reps. Congressmen Rodney Davis of Taylorville and Darin LaHood of Peoria say John Milhiser should not be immediately dismissed by President Joe Biden’s administration.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday the Biden administration has ``begun the transition process for the U.S. attorneys,” a traditional move by new presidents. In a joint statement, Davis and LaHood said the move would be ``reckless and irresponsible” for the administration to dismiss Milhiser or John Lausch the U.S attorney in northern Illinois, who is investigating public corruption that has tainted former House Speaker Michael Madigan and others. ....

Illinois’ U.S. Senators urge Biden to keep public corruption-fighting prosecutor
Former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan and Chicago Ald. Ed Burke are among the politicians curbed by Chicago’s current U.S. Attorney. A bipartisan group is trying to keep him in place to continue public corruption prosecutions.
Both U.S. Senators from Illinois are asking President Joe Biden to leave Chicago’s U.S. attorney in place so he can continue pursuing the corruption cases that so far have targeted Chicago’s most powerful alderman and the longest-serving Statehouse leader in U.S. history. ....

Illinois’ Congressional Delegation is unhappy with the current president over some recent terminations. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that President Joe Biden will ask for the resignation of nearly all Donald Trump-appointed U.S. attorneys, including the Chicago-based John Lausch and John Milhiser based in Springfield. Lausch has been heading the investigation in Illinois into the ComEd patronage and bribery scheme that has ensnared former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and several of his associates.
