FAIR HAVEN, Vt. The second half belonged to the Hartford High boys basketball team in a VPA Division II showdown at Fair Haven on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes erased a seven-point halftime deficit to beat the host Slaters, 57-51, in a potential postseason preview.
Hartford’s Brandon Potter drew the assignment of guarding Fair Haven star Kohlby Murray and Potter was more than up to the task, holding Murray to just 13 points. Potter countered that with 13 points of his own to settle that battle at a draw.

Delayed by two days when weather softened the course, the Lebanon High girls cross country ski team won its first NHIAA state championship on Thursday, taking the Division II crown at Great Glen Trails. Senior Ayla Weale recorded a pair of top-10 finishes for the Raiders, who had previously recorded four runner-up results in various divisions in the 1970s and ‘90s, long before the NHIAA set up Nordic skiing for its own state honors.

LANGDON, N.H. Lebanon’s Ayla Weale (10:38) edged out her closest competitor by more than 30 seconds and Hanover’s Noah Phipps nipped his brother, Simon, to claim individual victories in a three-team Nordic ski race at Fall Mountain Regional High School on Saturday. Hanover swept the team titles over the Raiders and Wildcats.
Britta Arnold (11:10), Sage Gilbert-Diamond (11:12) and Elsa May (11:35) took 2-3-4, respectively, guiding the Marauders to a team win. They were followed by Kathryn Davis (12:03) in sixth and Annika Milliman (12:25) grabbed 11th.
