Sarasota Orchestra expresses surprise at mayor’s Payne Park offer
SARASOTA – A new Sarasota City Commission may breathe new life into a plan to relocate the Sarasota Orchestra to Payne Park, nearly two years after elected officials soundly rejected the proposal.
But the orchestra said Tuesday that it has not spoken to city leaders in more than a year and has largely moved on with other ideas, including exploring areas in Sarasota County for its new performing arts hall.
Mayor Hagen Brody, who was among the majority in 2019 to shoot down the orchestra’s plan to build a concert hall on seven acres of the 39-acre Payne Park, has asked that the matter be reconsidered by the City Commission on March 1.   ....
