Dairy is facing bumpy roads and choppy waters The demand for dairy continues, but transportation remains rocky. That’s according to Phil Plourd, president of Blimling and Associates, in an April 14 webinar, “Bumpy Roads, Choppy Waters: Freight Situation and Outlook.” Transportation plays a role at every link in the dairy supply chain it touches everything. So higher freight costs and constrained capacity are only adding to an already volatile market picture. Over the past several months, the economy has sped up with massive government stimulus helping the U.S. economy survive the COVID-19 pandemic. Off the beaten track: UK journalist explores Korea s remote islands Posted : 2021-01-13 09:04 Updated : 2021-01-13 13:12 Seyeonjeong Pavilion in Bogil Island, a birthplace of poet Yun Seon-do s iconic literary works / Korea Times File Author Michael Gibb goes island hopping in Korea s unpredictable, alluring sea By Park Han-sol Fueled by the sugary, milky, hot, completely unhealthy taste of Korea s homegrown instant coffee label Maxim Gold, an English backpacker starts another of his days on a rattling ferry that takes him to some of the most isolated islands along the coastline of South Korea. Perhaps for Michael Gibb, a man born in the British Isles, and now living on an island off Hong Kong, the trip across the treacherous sea and thick fog to reach the islands strewn around the Korean peninsula in the year 2018 was destined from the start. ....
Book review: Island hopping in South Korea Michael Gibb’s journey by ferry to 30 islands is a self-deprecating examination of the more remote parts of this highly industrialized country By Bradley Winterton / Contributing reporter Great comic set-pieces in literature are usually carefully constructed and well-timed. So it is when Kenneth Widmerpool in Anthony Powell’s A Dance to the Music of Time (a character clearly based on Shakespeare’s Malvolio in Twelfth Night) has a shaker of sugar emptied over his head, or when in Evelyn Waugh’s letters he misreads instructions and explodes 10 times the intended amount of dynamite, bringing down the roof of half a house, including that of a toilet on which someone is sitting (luckily without fatal results). ....
