A Massachusetts woman was killed when she was ejected from a motorcycle that went off the road in Lyman on Saturday morning. Maine State Police said Anne Stout, 50, of Maynard was the passenger on a motorcycle heading north on Old Berwick Road around 11:30 a.m. that went onto the soft shoulder and left the roadway and went into a ditch. Stoudt was thrown from the motorcycle and died from her injuries, according to police. The driver, Gerald Gibson, 51, of Sanford sustained minor injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Police said neither Stoudt or Gibson were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. ....

The May 19 failures of the Edenville and Sanford dams after days of heavy rain contributed to a 500-year flood event that inundated parts of Midland and Gladwin counties. Thousands of people were forced from their homes. The flood caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. The scars of the 500-year flood event are still visible in Sanford, but so are signs of rebuilding. Melissa Ayotte’s family has owned the Red Oak restaurant in Sanford since 1973. She says the flood waters rose to nearly the ceiling of the one story brick building. ....

(AP) The North Carolina Senate elected seven people Wednesday to the governing panel for the 17-campus University of North Carolina system. Senators reelected to the UNC Board of Governors board Chair Randy Ramsey, discount retailer CEO and conservative philanthropist Art Pope of Raleigh and Jimmy Clark of Greensboro, the owner of a heavy transportation company. Ramsey is a boat-building company executive from Carteret County. Board newcomers also elected to four-year terms are investment firm partner Lee Roberts of Raleigh, who was then-Gov. Pat McCrory’s budget director; security-services firm president Sonja Nichols of Charlotte; and real estate developer Kirk Bradley of Sanford. ....
