Despite resistance from some people, queer and allied San Diegans have found ways to bridge the injustices that have affected our communities to such an extent that now key political leadership roles across the city and county are served by exemplary queer elected officials. Many in San Diego, however, aren’t aware that the same liberties they’ve fought for have long been denied to their queer siblings in Baja California, a few miles down the freeway. Nevertheless, this injustice is starting to change in Mexico: after failed attempts in 2020, Baja’s state constitution was amended last month during Pride month to recognize the right of same-sex couples to get married. ....
