Apple is facing a potential problem in San Jose, with an increasing number of homeless people trickling into an owned plot of undeveloped land as nearby encampments are cleared out.
CBS affiliate KPIX last week reported inhabitants of homeless clusters near the Mineta San Jose International Airport are making their way to larger parcels of land owned by Apple.
The exodus from Mineta to Apple s plots supposedly began when the City of San Jose proceeded with an enhanced cleanup at the airport in recent weeks, a project urged on by the Federal Aviation Administration. There are currently between 30 and 100 residents living in the approximately 55-acre patchwork of land parcels, a chunk of which was purchased for $138 million in 2015. Inhabitants have set up in RVs, tents, and vehicles, while ....

Last month, the city of San Jose became a pioneer of gun reform. Now San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo is taking his push for tougher gun laws to the White House, at a Monday afternoon meeting with President Joe Biden and city officials from around the country. The meeting was characterized by the White House as a high-level strategy discussion aimed at curbing gun violence at the local level, given Congress inaction on gun control.
Liccardo said that Monday morning that he would push for stronger gun laws during the meeting, as KPIX/CBS SF reported. ....

San Jose Mayor Meets With President Biden To Discuss Reducing Gun Violence

San Jose recently approved a plan to reduce gun violence. Mayor Sam Liccardo met with President Joe Biden and other officials at the White House, Monday, to discuss how the same can be done nationally.
San Jose’s City Council approved several gun harm reduction proposals at the end of June. They include: a mandate for gun insurance; impounding guns from those who do not comply with insurance mandates and other laws; and recording all gun purchases.
Mayor Liccardo likens gun insurance to auto insurance. He says that was effective in reducing per-mile car accidents by 80 percent in four decades. He also says insurance would reduce the public cost of gun violence, which in San Jose costs taxpayers nearly half-a-billion dollars annually, according to early data from the Pacific Institute on Research and Evaluation. ....
