Santa Clara County's COVID-19 Death Toll Drops by 505 After Data Change

It brings the county s death toll down from 2,201 to 1,696 individuals, according to the county s Public Health Department.
Throughout the pandemic, we have focused on bringing the best information to the public as soon as we have it, said Dr. Sarah Rudman, Assistant Public Health Officer. As we see more vaccinations and fewer cases and deaths, we have had the opportunity to more deeply analyze the deaths that came in during the height of the pandemic.
Alameda county conducted a similar review of county deaths in early June and their death toll dropped by 411, to 1,223 total fatalities.

A fire on the seventh floor of the Boyd Hotel around 10:49 a.m. Friday left one person hospitalized. The residential hotel, which is a part of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic s building portfolio, experienced a single-alarm fire today that was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system; one resident was displaced and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment; the fire is still under investigation. Santa Clara County Transit Workers to Be Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccinations

The hard-fought victory is the result of four transit unions and the VTA advocating at the state and local level to get their workers vaccinated as soon as possible. We fought for this to happen on the front lines while keeping transit service on the street, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265 President John Courtney said.
The transit union represents 45 percent of the VTA s workforce, mainly consisting of bus and light rail operators. We are ready to get in line, roll up our sleeves and take our shot, Courtney said.

Just before 7:30 am on Jan. 21, an anesthesiologist affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital named Richard Briones sent an email to LGUSD Superintendent Paul Johnson and Good Samaritan Chief Operating Officer Gary Purushotham. Briones, records show, appears to share a home with LGUSD Communications Coordinator Karen Briones, who is also copied on the email.
“A quick reintroduction to you both as it has been a while since our collaborative work on the Feed our Heroes project,” Briones wrote. “Gary, I shared news surrounding access to the COVID vaccine for the community’s frontline education staff with Paul yesterday evening. I forwarded the link you sent me to him this morning.” ....
