Leamington council has a tough decision to make when it comes to selecting a police service, but that choice won’t include Chatham-Kent’s department.
A report coming to a special meeting of Leamington council Tuesday is recommending the bids for a five-year policing contract from both Chatham-Kent police and the Windsor Police Service not be accepted. The report also recommends the town continue to receive policing from the OPP, even though council voted last year to terminate that contract over dissatisfaction with the service being provided.

COVID-19 has impacted Chatham-Kent police in dozens of ways since the pandemic began in March 2020.
The effects of the pandemic were mentioned several times in a lengthy 2020 annual report on the department’s administrative support branch presented to the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board during a virtual meeting Tuesday.

Staff Sgt. Jason Chickowski, one the presenters at the meeting, told the board “2020 was like no other year” for the Chatham-Kent force, adding he was proud of the dedication and work done by everyone working for the department.

SARNIA – A Sarnia police officer is charged with breaking and entering a property to commit mischief.
Sarnia police received a complaint Jan. 10 about a property dispute involving an off-duty officer, police said.

Because of the nature of the complaint, Sarnia’s force requested help from Chatham-Kent police, which ultimately took on the investigation, Sarnia police said in a statement on Wednesday.
Const. Ryan LeBlanc was arrested and charged by the Chatham-Kent department Wednesday, police said.
