The Des Moines suburbs continued to lead Iowa s growth, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released Thursday.
The agency estimates that Waukee, Grimes, Ankeny, Norwalk and Johnston grew faster than any other cities in the state from 2019 to 2020.
The data indicate the core metro counties, Polk and Dallas, saw a combined population increase of about 6,600. That compares to an overall state population increase of about 4,000 implying that people on the move in Iowa are either coming to the Des Moines metro or leaving the state.
