View Comments The Des Moines suburbs continued to lead Iowa s growth, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released Thursday. The agency estimates that Waukee, Grimes, Ankeny, Norwalk and Johnston grew faster than any other cities in the state from 2019 to 2020.  The data indicate the core metro counties, Polk and Dallas, saw a combined population increase of about 6,600.
