The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a 10-stop, 1,250-mile tour around Britain to thank key workers and speak to communities affected by coronavirus. They squeezed in their three-day trip on the Royal Train in the gap between December s lockdowns. However, it turned out to be quite a controversial trip and they were criticised by those who argued the royals should be staying home, just like everyone else.

One of Nicola Sturgeon’s closest civil servants raised doubts about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal train visit to Scotland a few weeks before trip, Freedom of Information (FoI) documents reveal.
John Somers told William and Kate’s office the visit faced presentational issues if it went ahead while travel restrictions were in place, and his final opinion was it may have to be postponed.
