Five homicides over the past five years remain unsolved in Gastonia.
Investigators remain hopeful they ll receive information that will help lead to arrests, bringing justice for the victims as well as some closure for the families.

A boy has serious injuries after he was hit by a vehicle in the city’s east end on Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after 2 p.m., police responded to reports of a collision at Southwood Drive and Glen Stewart Avenue.
A seven-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle and became trapped under it, police said.
The boy was removed from under the vehicle and taken to hospital in serious, non-life threatening condition, according to police.
The vehicle remained on scene.
The cause of the collision is unknown.
Roads in the area were closed for an investigation but have since reopened. ....

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich on Monday released a $6.7 billion budget plan for the next fiscal year, recommending no tax-rate increases, a reorganization of the county’s police department, and targeted funding to support recovery from the pandemic.
Of the $6.7 billion, roughly $6 billion would go to the operating budget and the remainder would to the Capital Improvements Program, debt service and reserves. The recommended $6 billion budget is an increase from the $5.8 billion budget the County Council approved in late May. ....

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Ferguson Avenue has reopened in both directions, near Southwood Drive, after smoke from a fire forced a closure on Thursday afternoon, according to Chatham Emergency Management Agency.
According to the agency, a person was burning a large trash pile behind their house and the fire got out of control.
Firefighters closed the road to run water hoses across the street. The fire is under control.
