FAMILIES in Burnham have expressed their anger after their children failed to secure places at their local primary schools. Many children in the area were expecting to start at Burnham Primary or St Mary’s this September. However, parents have now been told their child will be going to schools such as Southminster Primary, which can be up to an hour-long walk from the town. This is a major concern as transport links are not ideal and the road leading to Southminster has no pavement. Mum-of-two Dawn Wells, 31, lives in Burnham with partner Michael Kempster, 33. The couple hoped four-year-old daughter Savannah would be able to go to St Mary’s or Burnham Primary, but they were offered Southminster Primary. ....

Several members of staff at Plume Academy were highlighted at the Essex Teaching Awards 2021. Assistant vice principal Jo Everett, deputy faculty leader for English Lois Russell, KS4 English lead Louise Cummins, who alone received three nominations, were recognised. She worked tirelessly throughout lockdown to provide regular communication to the parents and students who would be moving from primary school to the Plume Academy. ....
