At the invitation of Jordan Customs, in its capacity as the new Vice-Chair for the WCO North of Africa, Near and Middle East (MENA) region, the WCO Secretary General, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, participated in the country’s virtual celebration of International Customs Day (ICD) on 26 January.

Pacific Customs Administrations Celebrate International Customs Day

As countries emerge from the coronavirus crisis, Customs
administrations in the Pacific should be commended for their
tireless efforts in protecting their borders as well as
ensuring that trade is continued in the region, Oceania
Customs Organisation Head of Secretariat, Richard Brennan
says.
OCO and its 23 members joined the world in
celebrating International Customs Day on January 26, which
has been dedicated to “the efforts of customs officers to
support people and businesses by strengthening the global
supply chain, reinforcing collaboration, harnessing
technology and putting “people” at the centre of the

Celebrating World Customs Day in COVID Times
International Customs Day was celebrated virtually this year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. January twenty-sixth is the day designated to honor custom officials and agencies for their function in taking care of the flow of goods across the world borders. But with the pandemic still raging, issues of effective service delivery and revenue collection are being looked at carefully by the Customs and Excise Department to improve efficiency where necessary, despite the restrictions caused by the widespread effect of the disease.
