Tasmanian tourism’s ticket to recovery
Tasmania’s tourism operators, hotels, caravan parks and restaurants are set for a rush of tourists as part of a new $1.2 billion support package from the Morrison Government.
Assistant Minister for Industry Development Jonno Duniam said 800,000 half-priced airfares would be provided under the package to get Australians travelling and supporting tourism businesses.
“Discounts will be offered on tens of thousands of fares per week across an initial 13 key tourism regions, including Launceston, Devonport and Burnie,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.
“We know that when $1 is spent on a ticket, $10 is spent on the ground, which will give Tasmania’s economy the boost it needs as it recovers. ....

After much anticipation, the federal government has finally released the details of its new $1.2 billion support package for Australia’s tourism industry.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that while Australia’s economy had recovered 85 per cent of its fall from COVID-19, the next step in the government’s National Economic Recovery Plan would target the businesses, workers and regions still doing it tough.
Morrison said the package’s mix of half-price airline tickets, cheap loans for businesses and direct support to keep planes in the air, and airline workers in their jobs, would be a bridge to a more normal way of life for Aussies. ....

Cheap business loan program extended for those off JobKeeper


Cheap COVID-recovery loans with 24-month repayment holidays are on offer for Mackay and Whitsunday businesses that move off JobKeeper by March 28.
More than 350,000 current JobKeeper recipients Australia-wide are expected to be eligible under the expanded SME Loan Guarantee Scheme.
Loans will be available from April 1 and must be approved before December 31 this year.
The Morrison-McCormack Government will extend the scheme as part of its commitment to support up to $40 billion in lending to small and medium enterprises.
Under the existing scheme, the government says more than 35,000 loans worth more than $3 billion have already been provided to help businesses get to the other side of this pandemic. ....

International freight flights from Toowoomba to Singapore extended

High end produce will continue to reach overseas markets with freight flights extended until April 14 under the Federal Government s International Freight Assistance Mechanism.
An extra twelve flights will take cargo from Toowoomba to Singapore via Cairns.
The $670 million program was introduced following the massive drop in the number of international passenger flights due to COVID-19, as Federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud explains to Vicki Thompson.
