Robotic platform offers safe and precise steering of surgical catheters Traditionally, the success of a minimally-invasive surgical (MIS) procedure is dependent on the clinician s capabilities. Prominent MIS procedures include vascular surgeries, during which catheters are inserted into the body, steered to a target location, and used to treat a vascular disease. A particular challenge in vascular surgeries is the accurate positioning of the catheter tip. Researcher Christoff Heunis of the University of Twente came with a solution. He designed the ARMM system, a robotic surgical platform that steers surgical catheters through externally-generated electromagnetic fields. Heunis envisions it to be a safe and precise alternative to manual steering and hope to provide surgeons with the dexterity required to complete an intervention faster. Today Heunis will defend his PhD work on this topic. ....
Why did the FAU-G developer get defamation notices from âavid Rummy playersâ? Vishal Gondal suggested playing online Rummy amounted to gambling and six people said they got offended or were ostracized because of his comments. But there may be more to it than that. Medianama. He detailed the state of Real Money Gaming, or RMG, and how gambling is flourishing in India in the name of gaming. A month later, Gondal received six legal notices, all sent within a few days, claiming that his article and some of his tweets had ruined their reputations. Received multiple Criminal & Civil Defamation notices ....
These updates are republished press releases and communications from members of the Science|Business Network University of Twente professor awarded ERC grant to advance robotic surgery with novel magnetic system Prof. Dr. Sarthak Misra of the University of Twente has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept grant titled – RAMSES (Robust Actuation through Magnetism for Safe Endovascular Surgery). It is Prof. Misra’s fourth ERC grant. RAMSES follows from the results of his ERC Starting grant ROBOTAR. Within RAMSES, the researchers from the Surgical Robotics Laboratory (SRL) will develop a system for magnetically-actuated robotic surgery. Robotic technologies are increasingly more prevalent within the field of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), helping clinicians to treat the patients quickly, precisely, and with minimal complications. Over the years, SRL has developed several robotic technologies targeting an array of procedures within MIS. A prominent research line ....
