There Is No Culture Of Silence - Information Minister

Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, says claims by some members of the public that there is a culture of silence in the country are untrue.
He said government was working to satisfy the constitutional mandate required for the functioning of the country s democracy, “the claim that there is a culture of silence in this country; you can’t talk in this country, we all know that cannot be the truth”, he told Journalists in Bolgatanga.
Mr Nkrumah was on a three-day familiarisation tour of the North East, Upper East, Savannah, Upper West and Northern Regions.

World Press Freedom Day: Journalists Must Uphold High Professional Standards - Ayeboafo

Mr. Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh, Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) has urged journalists and media practitioners to continue to uphold high journalistic standards in the execution of their mandate to maintain public trust.
“It is important for us all to acknowledge the fact that when we say that we want to see information as public good then it poses on us an obligation as media people to do what is right, do what is just and do what is fair. Anything short of that cannot be seen as a public good,” he said.
Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate this year’s World Press Freedom Day in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Ayeboafoh lamented the lack of professionalism and misreporting in some sections of the media, a situation he said could undermine the successes chalked by the media over the years. ....

Uri Without SDM, Locals Suffer

BARAMULLA: The post of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri is lying vacant for the past two weeks after the transfer of the erstwhile SDM causing inconvenience to people of the area.
Locals said various public work projects have been hit in the sub-division Uri due to the absence of SDM.
“It is very unfortunate that almost 15 days have passed and the government is yet to appoint a new officer. We are suffering immensely,” said Abrar Ahmad, a local.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a local Right To Information activist said the government has been making big but hollow claims on good governance after the reading down of Article 370. ....

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will not face an Ethics Committee grilling over her controversial private emails.
Speaker Curtis Pitt knocked back the opposition s bid to refer the premier to the committee over allegations she misled parliament about the emails on February 28, 2017.
Ms Palaszczuk told the House on that day she had not used her private email account for official purposes.
In one of her emails publicly released, current Transport Minister Mark Bailey asked her about Paul Simshauser s political leanings before his appointment as director-general of energy and water in 2015.
