Michael Tagliafierro of Porters Corners, Saratoga County,  has received a Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his 37 years of military duty before retirement. Tagliafierro also received the Order of St. Maurice, an award for excellence in infantry, and a New York State Conspicuous Service Medal. He is a veteran of two deployments to Iraq war and is authorized to wear the combat patch of the New York Army National Guard s 42nd Infantry Division, the Minnesota Army National Guard s 34th Infantry Division, and the active Army s 1st Infantry Division.

The state Department of Labor’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification system requires business with more than 49 employees to provide advance notice of large-scale job reductions. Typically, the threshold is 25 workers or more than 33 percent of the workforce losing their jobs, whichever is greater. In recent weeks, Breton Industries, Saratoga Center for Rehab and Skilled Nursing Care and Southwest Airlines have submitted WARN notices. Breton said it would eliminate 65 of the 82 jobs at its facility on Sam Stratton Road in Amsterdam effective April 15. The longtime military contractor will be ceasing its military products line and commercial  line.

Adirondack Trust Company Community Fund awards $80k in local grants

With COVID-19 precautions in place, a digital awards reception celebrated the grant recipients. Since 2012, Lend-A-Hand Grants have been awarded annually using community funds from ATCCF’s annual Autumn of Giving Match Campaign. Because of the economic stresses, COVID-19 has placed on businesses and individuals, the Adirondack Trust Company fully funded this year’s grant efforts, donating $77,000 in lieu of the typical Match Campaign. - Advertisement - “In a year full of challenges and difficult decisions, the Community Fund is grateful that Adirondack Trust quickly stepped up to fund the 2020 Lend-A-Hand Grants,” ATCCF Advisory Committee Chair Brian Straughter said. “We are so grateful for our community partnerships like this one, Straughter added.
