These refreshing white wines to enjoy this spring are all Italian, not by design but because they all happened to star in recent tastings. Three of them are recent arrivals, too, and the fourth is a new version of an old favourite of mine. All four are 13 per cent or lower in alcohol, too.
Italy has a bewildering array of native grapes, red and white, many specific to one region. A fair few whites begin with Grec, as in Greco, Grecanico, Grechetto, suggesting a Greek heritage. Italians have always seen wine as something to accompany and complement food rather than dominate it. In the past, Italian white wines tended to be light and fresh, a sort of vinous squeeze of lemon to bring life to simply cooked fish and shellfish.

After months of adhering to pandemic protocols, Don Carter, Jr., wants some relief.
Like many in the industry, Carter, owner of more than a half dozen central Pennsylvania restaurants, including Dukes Bar & Grill and Dockside Willies Bar & Grill in Wormleysburg, has had to lay off employees, shave back hours and watch sales and profits plummet.
He has also delayed opening a new restaurant in Wormleysburg, Tequila Willies, to focus on preparing his other establishments’ decks and patios for spring. As he sees it, there’s more money to be made from outdoor dining.

A new cafe in the heart of Hershey is playing off the town’s sweet history.
Cafe aMusee opened this week at The Hershey Story at 63 W. Chocolate Ave. with dessert pizzas, hot chocolate bombs and syringes filled with warm chocolate ganache.
“We’re in Hershey. This is a town founded on milk chocolate and Milton Hershey,” said Angela Megoulas, Café aMusée co-owner.
The cafe slides into the former Pantry Cafe and is designed to appeal to tourists and local residents. Megoulas and partner Irene Gekas, who also operate Gourmet Grille and Gyro.GRK at Hersheypark, envision a community atmosphere with outdoor dining, catering and pop-up events.
