‘Rangers, ANF are there to help youth falling into drug addiction’ June 29, 2021 Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhry on Monday said youngsters even from ideal families are getting addicted to synthetic drugs like ecstasy and ice (crystal methamphetamine) at educational institutions, but the paramilitary force and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) can help them get rid of their dependence on illicit drugs. “Youngsters from not only abusive but even from good and ideal families can get addicted to drugs. It’s the responsibility of their friends to help them, and in this regard, the Rangers and ANF can be approached. I assure you, we won’t treat them like criminals. Instead, we’ll help them get rid of the addiction,” Chaudhry said while addressing students at the Ojha campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). ....
Karachi May 23, 2021 On the recommendations of the provincial task force on Covid-19, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday announced that the coronavirus restrictions will stay in place for two more weeks due to the rise in the number of infection cases observed after Eidul Fitr. The provincial government has also decided to keep educational institutions closed until the Covid-19 situation improves, while beaches, amusement parks and other recreational places will also remain closed for another fortnight. The decision to maintain the pandemic-related restrictions was taken in the task forceâs meeting, which was chaired by Shah and attended by provincial ministers and secretaries, health and infectious diseases experts, and representatives from WHO, the military and paramilitary forces. ....
KARACHI: Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in healthcare and medical sciences as the doctors at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) have successfully performed the first liver auto-transplantation procedure, a top official said here on Saturday. Described as “one of the most complex and sophisticated procedures”, the doctors at DUHS took out the liver of a 28-year-old cancer patient, surgically removed the tumour, reconstructed the damaged veins and then re-implanted it in the patient’s body, who’s now in the phase of recovery. “The DUHS team of liver transplant surgeons has achieved this major breakthrough performing one of the most complex and sophisticated procedures, known as liver auto-transplantation,” said DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Saeed Quraishy. ....
