With about 75% forest cover, Uttara Kannada is perhaps the only district in the State whose greenery is still intact. There live people of tribal communities belonging to Halakki, Siddi, Kudubi, and Gouli. ....

The urban students have facilities like online education, coaching, entertainment etc. But the students living in rural belt near the forests have no access to such facilities. They entirely depend on their schools to get knowledge and when the schools are closed, they do not have any avenues to improve their knowledge or skills. Dinesh Holla of Mangaluru-based Sahyadri Sanchaya thought about them and planned Vana Belaku camp for tribal children inside the forests. ....
Mangaluru: Shiradi Ghat tunnel project to have environmental impact on Western Ghats Thu, Dec 24 2020 04:47:17 PM Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS) Mangaluru, Dec 24: Environmentalists are concerned about the green signal given by the union government for the tunnel construction work at Shiradi Ghat to connect port city Mangaluru with state capital Bengaluru. This four-lane tunnel project that connects Chennai with Mangaluru is on a fast track. The estimated cost of construction of the 23.5 km long highway tunnel is Rs 10,000 crore. But the tunnel will be constructed to a distance of 5.5 km length only. In addition, 10 bridges at a height of 100 meters will be constructed. If the project gets completed, it is opined by experts that it is possible to cover the distance between Mangaluru and Bengaluru within five hours. ....
