Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to resume talks with the farmers protesting the centre s three farm laws.
Mr Chautala further said a team of three to four cabinet ministers may restart discussion with the farmers who have been camping at the Delhi borders for over 100 days.
I would like to bring to your kind attention that our Annadattas are on roads at Delhi border agitating in respect of newly enacted three farm laws of the Central government. It is a matter of concern that such agitation is going on for more than hundred days, Mr Chautala wrote in the letter. ....

With Congress’s in-charge of West Bengal Jitin Prasada contracting COVID-19, the party sent senior leader BK Hariprasad as the senior observer to the state for the ongoing assembly elections. Claiming that the Congress will spring a surprise in the state polls, he defended party’s senior leader Rahul Gandhi for not campaigning in the first four phases of the elections saying it was the state unit of the party’s strategy. Thakurnagar (West Bengal), April 16 (ANI): As the West Bengal Assembly elections is on its fifth phase, the crucial Matua community s (or Namasudras) votes that forms a major chunk of votes in the upcoming phases happens to be instrumental in deciding who comes into power in the state.
In areas that have a predominant presence of this community, political parties are wooing Matuas with varied promises.

Another candidate dies of infection in West Bengal.
Another candidate contesting the West Bengal Assembly elections died after testing positive for COVID-19 on Friday, even as political parties continued campaigning, even while blaming each other for the surge cases.
Pradip Nandy, 73, a Samyukt Morcha candidate from Jangipur in Murshidabad who died, was representing Revolutionary Socialist Party, a constituent of the Left Front. He is the second candidate to die of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. On Thursday, Congress candidate from Shamshergunj, Rejaul Haque succumbed to the infection. At least four other poll contestants have tested positive. ....
