Initial probe suggests that a leak in the oxygen cylinder aggrevated the blaze. COIMBATORE: An 108 ambulance vehicle that was parked at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) caught fire at 11.10am on Saturday. A source in the hospital said that the fire broke out due to a short circuit inside the vehicle. Stating that no casualties were reported, the source said that a leak in the oxygen cylinder in the ambulance aggravated the fire. An official at CMCH said that the fire broke out when the staff were changing the patient s oxygen cylinder. The ambulance staff immediately pulled out the patient, he added. ....

New facility established within three days after witnessing patients in need of oxygen support waiting in ambulances The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on May 16 opened a waiting area with oxygen supply to avoid making patients requiring oxygen support wait in ambulances outside the COVID-19 ward. The hospital administration built an annex to the COVID-19 outpatient ward with 15 beds, each having a portable oxygen concentrator. ....
Officially, the Covid-19 toll in the district rose to 723 with a 63-year-old woman, who was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on April 25, succumbing to the virus (Representative image) COIMBATORE: The district recorded its highest-ever single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Saturday, when 1,257 people were declared positive for the virus, even as the tally increased to 79,669, just 331 short of another milestone of 80,000-mark. The daily test positivity rate also shot up to 12.2%, with 1,257 of the 10,224 samples testing positive. The number of active Covid cases in the district too touched an all-time high of 7,288, with only 913 patients getting discharged from treatment centres on the day.
