Mother and daughters complete Easter fund-raisers for good causes in Grantham  | Updated: 10:32, 07 April 2021 A Grantham organisation has raised £550 and continued to support good causes locally. Grantham Community Books spent the Easter period fundraising, while providing much-needed treats to those on the front line in Grantham Hospital’s ICU. On March 31, Nean Asher, who runs Grantham Community Books, was able to donate six portable DVD players and DVDs for the patients in the ICU, while delivering 50 goody bags for the staff to enjoy. (45894697) As well as this, Nean’s daughters, Sydney-Lily and Jessica, aged 10 and seven respectively, raised £550 from multiple Easter fund-raisers.

Inspirational youngsters are recognised at the Grantham Children of Courage Awards  | Updated: 09:58, 15 March 2021 There was no shortage of tears, smiles and laughter at the 10th annual Children of Courage Awards this week. Despite being in the midst of a global pandemic, the Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven was determined not to miss out on recognising eight of Grantham’s most inspirational and courageous youngsters. The special awards were held online for the first time since its launch in 2012, and celebrated the resilience and strength of eight young people from our local community who against all odds have shown tremendous courage in dealing with and overcoming difficulties in their own personal circumstances.

Nean Asher, of Community Books, Welby Street, wanted to ensure that pupils were given the opportunity to learn all about Captain Tom’s achievements and legacy. The mum-of-two said: “We were all touched by Captain Tom’s story. His determination to raise £1,000 at nearly 100 years old was incredible and the millions he raised was amazing. I had already brought his autobiography for my volunteers and I wanted something for my own two children.

Grantham book store raises hundreds for good causes throughout Covid-19 pandemic Published: 07:00, 10 January 2021 A community book store in Grantham donated hundreds of pounds to local good causes despite the Covid-19 pandemic having a huge impact on fund-raising efforts. Nean Asher, who runs Community Books in Welby Street, Grantham, managed to raise hundreds of pounds in 2020 by creating different ways to fund-raise including games, auctions and making gifts. Charities including Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, Marie Curie, Sands, Beehive community volunteers and Grantham Passage all received donations ranging from money to food and gifts. Grantham Rescue of Cats and Kittens (ROCK) also received £50 worth of cat food to help them through the pandemic.
