Local writer, photographer remembered as calm and steady voice HOLLAND Michael Lozon, a beloved local writer and photographer, died Friday, July 2, at the age of 72 after a five-month battle with cancer. Lozon was born in 1948 in Grand Haven, but spent most of his childhood in Alpena. After moving to West Michigan, he earned a bachelor s degree in photojournalism from Central Michigan University and began his career as a writer. Lozon was the business editor at The Sentinel from 1987-1990. He also worked as a business writer at The Grand Rapids Press, a freelance writer and editor for Holland Hospital and a group facilitator at Herrick District Library. ....

He had been diagnosed five months ago with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Born May 17, 1948, in Grand Haven to Elsie and Howard Lozon, he lived much of his younger life in Alpena, before moving to southwest Michigan. He earned a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism from Central Michigan University in 1976 and has worked for several Michigan newspapers, including The Holland Sentinel. In later years, he worked independently, documenting local business’ histories and area entrepreneurs’ personal memoirs. ....
