City of Eugene Seeks Feedback On Community Safety

The City of Eugene is conducting a Community Safety Survey through the end of March. It comes as city council works to finalize funding priorities for the Community Safety Payroll Tax.

The tax is supposed to help fund emergency and public safety services, including police, courts, and homelessness.
City spokesperson Laura Hammond said the survey gives council an update on needs that have changed since the conception of the initiative in 2018. This includes protests that occurred last summer.
“Based on that they actually specifically directed us to do some engagement sessions with organizations representing communities of color to really understand any changes or additions they felt would best support their community needs, Hammond said, the council is also interested in kind of gauging the broader communities perspective and priorities around community safety.”  ....

Trump, in 2016, ran on a clear economic populist message breaking with the traditional Republican playbook. He slammed Clinton and Obama trade deals such as the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), major factors in the immiseration of the manufacturing (rust belt) states that won him the Electoral College. ....
