Sandy and Estacada have food programs, but lack shelter for unhoused people, which was highlighted by winter storm
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges to many community members including those in Sandy and Estacada who are seeking shelter.
When a snow and ice storm made its way through the region in February, many of the typical warming shelters in both communities were unable to open because of COVID-19 safety requirements for social distancing.
Initially, the closest warming centers were in Oregon City and Molalla, both of which required lengthy bus rides with at least one transfer. However, as the storm progressed, a shelter was opened at the Alton Collins Retreat Center in Eagle Creek. ....

14 Palestinian and Regional Organisations Send Joint Urgent Appeal to UN Special Procedures on Forced Evictions in East Jerusalem

On 10 March 2021, the Palestinian Human Rights Organization Council, compromising of 11 Palestinian human rights organizations, the Civic Coalition for Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem, the Community Action Center (Al-Quds University), and Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies sent a joint urgent appeal to the United Nations (UN) Special Procedures on forced evictions in East Jerusalem. Addressing six UN Special Rapporteurs, including the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, the organization’s highlight forced evictions as part of Israel’s coercive environment in East Jerusalem, through which it maintains its institutionalized regime of racial domination and oppression over the Palestinian people. ....

CHIÈVRES, Belgium – At an installation where community and friendliness pair together like coffee and milk, the Bene Brew Café and Pub officially opened its doors March 11 at Chièvres Air Base, Belgium in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Tommy Mize, director of Installation Management Command Directorate - Europe.
The facility, operated by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, immediately next to the Community Activity Center and fitness area, offers patrons coffee, breakfast and lunch foods with more to come in the near future.
“Bene Brew was envisioned and created to fill a community need,” said Stacy Perez, FMWR director, “to offer a place where Soldiers and Families can come together.” ....

Hillcrest Village, a new community-driven affordable housing development in Northfield, seeks to tip these scales to meet the needs of the community’s most vulnerable residents.
