Behind the Table View police station in Milnerton, Cape Town, the Community Intervention Centre, painted a dazzling white, shines as a beacon of hope for women fleeing gender-based violence. Two women, Tam and Duduzile, sit in the welcome area. They are champions of women’s empowerment who are retelling their stories to anyone feeling trapped in the same circumstances they faced.
The mission of the Community Intervention Centre (CIC) is “to empower people in crisis.” They’re a free 24-hour trauma intervention and support center, providing up to six free counseling sessions, and a free 24-hour helpline in English, Afrikaans, isi ....

Healthcare workers say they are traumatised, exhausted, and demoralised while watching frightened patients and colleagues die.
Every day there are stories of the pressure and challenges being faced by healthcare workers on the Covid-19 frontline.
Recently EWN spoke to a number of doctors and nurses who said
Daphne Whittaker from the Community Intervention Centre joined Breakfast with Refilwe Moloto on Tuesday.
Established in 2001, the Community Intervention Centre is an NPO and NGO based in Table View that provides free, 24-hour trauma support.
She says prior to the pandemic they mostly offered support to victims of crime, but since the start of lockdown they have broadened their services. ....
