A public committee has narrowed future plans for the former Six Flags New Orleans site down to two proposals.
Many of the more than 300 public comments submitted to the committee hours before a virtual meeting via Zoom pledged support for a project by a group of developers called Bayou Phoenix, which seeks to put a logistics hub, travel center, water park, sports complex and hotel on the site. The group said that the logistics center could attract tenants like Amazon or Walmart. ....

There has been much said about what laws we need to change to improve our community’s chances to find a home to live in. All the talk is for naught if we cannot agree together to build the homes our people need.
Hawaiian Community Assets is working on developing a housing plan for us. We need to vet their proposals when the plan is presented on June 30, so that we all can agree on our road map to move forward. This road map cannot be a mayor’s or a county council’s road map. It must be our people’s road map. ....

Rotary Charities has been around in the Grand Traverse region since the 1970’s. The group distributes oil and gas revenue from property in the Boardman River Valley, to community causes throughout the five-county area. Over the years that’s included things like the State Theater, the City Opera House, and the Park Place Hotel. It also means grants and investments for everything from infrastructure and transportation to arts and culture.
Now, Rotary Charities Executive Director Becky Ewing is getting ready for her retirement later this month. “I’m just delighted that it’s time. And we have a beautiful hand-off planned.” ....

Nonprofit seeks input on housing plan | News, Sports, Jobs

Hawaiian Community Assets will hold a series of meetings in April to get public input on a draft housing plan the nonprofit has developed for Maui County.
The Comprehensive Affordable Housing Plan outlines a strategy for bringing 5,000 units to Central, South and West Maui through a $1.6 billion effort that would include major overhauls to the county’s policies and approach.
Hawaiian Community Assets spent three months gathering community feedback on the plan, with more than 1,000 residents engaged and 256 surveys received, before presenting it to the Maui County Council’s Affordable Housing Committee on March 23.
The nonprofit now plans to go back out to the community to discuss ways to strengthen the recommendations that participants brought forward. It will also share resources that can immediately help local families with housing. The topics and meeting dates are as follows: ....
