12 April 2021 | 01:32pm Griffiths Island & Warrnambool Breakwater Closed Due To Damage The Warrnambool Breakwater and boat ramp have been temporarily closed to the public after the historic structure was damaged during rough weather over the weekend. All staircases to the top walkway are closed off, with some sections of the stainless steel kick rail hanging loose. “Once the weather is more favourable, Council staff will make a more detailed assessment of the damage before we develop a program of repairs,” Council’s Director City Infrastructure David Leahy said. “We’re hopeful that by the end of the week we’ll have a clearer picture of the work that is required, the unfortunate reality is that the Breakwater could be closed for a number of weeks ....
Works Set To Improve Access to Port Fairy’s Griffiths Island The first stage of a project to improve access to Port Fairy s Griffiths Island is scheduled to begin this month. Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said that the improvements will ensure a safe and accessible passage to the popular Griffiths Island Lighthouse. “This project will not only improve safety and emergency vehicle access to the island but will also complement the natural attractions on the island and enhance visitors’ experience, encouraging an increase in tourism visitation and regional economic benefits.” Article continues below The $200,000 project includes the replacement of deteriorated infrastructure under the causeway and the construction of a new concrete path, and is jointly funded by the Council in conjunction with the Victorian Government. ....

Port Fairy Police Nab Speeding Driver A speeding driver who was nabbed by local police as part of Operation Nexus over the weekend, is set to face a lengthy stint without a driver s licence. Port Fairy Police intercepted the South Australian provisional licence holder traveling on the Princes Hwy near Codrington, during the long weekend operation. The driver was detected at 149 kilometres an hour, whilst traveling with an adult passenger and 3 young children in the vehicle.
