Parke County officials get ready for Community Crossing Grant

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Parke County Commissioners and the Highway Supervisor spent Monday driving around the county, deciding which roads need repairs.
This comes in preparation for the Community Crossing Grant application that will be submitted by the county in July. Officials tell me that they try to keep their residents a priority when deciding which roads need to be repaired.
We try to look at not just the Bridge Festival, where people come one time a year and drive the roads. We have people that live on these roads that need to drive them every day, said Parke County Highway Supervisor Randy Norman. ....

Avilla to hear from consultant on sewer plant upgrade


AVILLA — The town of Avilla’s wastewater treatment plant needs an upgrade. A consultant’s report set the estimated price tag at $2.3 million.
For that kind of money, the Avilla Town Council said Wednesday it wanted to hear from the author of the report, which could happen as soon as the council’s next meeting set for May 19.
According to Utilities Superintendent Brian Carroll, the sewage plant went online in February 2002.
“It hasn’t been touched in 20 years,” Carroll told the council.
Several upgrades need to be made to keep the town in compliance with discharge requirements set by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Among the issues is the amount of phosphorous being removed. ....
