Donovan Mitchell has been in the headlines recently due a controversy completely out of his control. The Utah Jazz superstar continues to generate news, but the latest headlines are for all the right reasons.
The NBA announced this week that Mitchell is a recipient of the Offseason NBA Cares Community Assist Award. In a statement, the league announced Mitchell earned the honor for championing “social justice and education” and “using his platform to speak out against racism and inequity.”

Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell refused to remain silent on social justice issues off the court, becoming a go-to guy in NBA circles.
His commitment to advance social justice coupled with his passion for education earned him the Offseason NBA Cares Community Assist Award.
The award honors Mitchell s efforts between the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, including a $12 million pledge to Greenwich Country Day School, which he and his sister, Jordan, attended and where his mother, Nicole, taught for over 10 years.
