After the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and others in 2020, YWCA Lower Cape Fear responded by reaching out and tackling the subject of racism head-on. Last summer the organization launched Talk on Race, as part of its mission and makeup which for 104 years has centered on eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting inclusion in communities nationwide. ....

Family photo Howard Lehrer, a respected therapist who operated Counseling Services of Scarborough, died Dec. 27 from complications of Lewy body dementia and COVID-19. He was 78. Mr. Lehrer was remembered by his family this week as a kind, loving and intelligent guy who lived life to its fullest. He began his career as a licensed marriage and family therapist in the early 1970s. He worked at several health facilities including Catholic Charities, Community Counseling Center, Maine Medical Center and Southern Maine Medical Center. In 1985, he started a private practice, Counseling Services of Scarborough. He developed a specialty in anger management and offered workshops throughout the state. ....

Dec 21, 2020 The Conneaut Public Library and a number of other entities worked together to give away 44 new bicycles earlier this month. SUBMITTED CONNEAUT â A partnership between the library, city departments and other organizations culminated with 44 new bicycles being donated to children. The bicycles were donated by the Flying Wheels Bicycle Club, Summit BiCycle, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 51, and the Conneaut Fire Department, according to a statement from the Conneaut Public Library. Helmets were donated by the Flying Wheels Bicycle Club, Summit Bicycle and the Ashtabula County Metroparks. Conneaut City Manager Jim Hockaday spearheaded the project, according to the statement. The cityâs Wastewater Department took delivery of the bikes and they were assembled by library staff. ....
