Abduljabbar to be 'arraigned' as debate with Kano scholars end in controversy

A source close to the cleric told one of our reporters that charges were already prepared against Abduljabbar who, according to the source, was to be picked up from the venue of the debate which held at the Kano State Shari’a Commission offices.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the police invitation last night but insisted that the invitation had nothing to do with the Saturday’s debate.

He was to come on Friday but because of the preparation for the debate the day was shifted to allow him participate in the debate,” Kiyawa said. ....

It was for a good reason that everybody who breathed a sigh of relief when Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) got the domestic violence bill passed by the National Assembly in April also expressed scepticism when Advisor to PM on parliamentary affairs, Babar Awan, wrote to the NA speaker to have it vetted by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII). Now, just as feared, the crux of what was supposed to be a very progressive debate has shifted to unelected bodies that represent only the extreme right fringes of our divided society. And the waters have already been muddied by Jamiat e Ulema e Pakistan (JUP) taking it upon itself to express serious reservations about the bill and sending letters to the CII, Chairman Senate, Speaker National Assembly, interior minister, religious affairs minister, law minister and parliamentary affairs minister; calling its contents “un-Islamic” and all its supporters “deaf, dumb, and blind.” ....

Naz’s speech in the Commons in honour of Holy Prophet (PBUH)
July 9, 2021

Taking part in the debate on “Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill”, which proposes a maximum 10 years sentence for those damaging or attacking historic statues, the Bradford Labour MP welcomed that the law being passed recognises “commemorative” feelings as imperative to maintaining civil order.
Addressing the Parliament, Naz Shah said the UK government was rushing through this bill to recognise that statues symbolise the historical, cultural and social feelings of our nation and thus protecting feelings linked to such sensitivities as essential to preserve civil order. It is because, as the Justice Secretary told the ....
