Pay Transparency: Commission proposes measures to ensure equal pay for equal work
The European Commission yesterday presented a proposal on pay transparency to ensure that women and men in the EU get equal pay for equal work. A political priority of President
von der Leyen, the proposal sets out pay transparency measures, such as pay information for job seekers, a right to know the pay levels for workers doing the same work, as well as gender pay gap reporting obligations for big companies. The proposal also strengthens the tools for workers to claim their rights and facilitates access to justice. Employers will not be allowed to ask job seekers for their pay history and they will have to provide pay related anonymised data upon employee request. Did you know? Each year, 13,000 women receive a false-positive result when testing for genetic abnormalities. Photo: ndss.org
It is estimated that each year in the United States, about 171,000 pregnant women will receive a faulty prenatal screening test. Of these, about 4% (6,672 cases) receive an incorrect low-risk result providing false assurance to the mother, whereas the remaining 96% (164,916 cases) would receive an incorrect high-risk result, driving unnecessary anxiety. In real terms, this means that every day, 18 mothers will discover that their newborn is affected by a genetic issue, such as Down syndrome, on the day of delivery, instead of the early stages of pregnancy. On this episode of The Boutique Lawyer Show, host Jerome Doraisamy is joined by NDA managing director Joshua Davies and NDA founder and member of Parliament in South Australia, Andrea Michaels, to discuss why they both chose SME law firms from the outset of their vocational journeys, the myriad professional and business benefits from leading a firm in ways that are more collegiate and focused on development, and why those coming through the ranks may prefer to shy away from the big end of town. ....
