Councilmember will be reimbursed for Edmonds police chief candidate records search

MY EDMONDS NEWS

Councilmember Vivian Olson
The Edmonds City Council will reimburse Councilmember Vivian Olson for money she spent for copies of documents in last year’s contested police chief search. Council President Susan Paine told
My Edmonds News Saturday she has approved the payment.
The debate had dragged on for four months. Past Council President Adrienne Fraley-Monillas and current Council President Paine had refused to reimburse Olson; both saying they had not approved the expense. During a council discussion April 20, Fraley-Monillas called Olson’s efforts to make the documents public a “witch hunt” against Pruitt. Councilmember Laura Johnson said it was “hard to overlook (Olson’s) position of bias” since Olson had never requested documents on Jim Lawless, the other chief applicant, or on any other candidate for a Director’s position in Edmonds. Paine had argued that Olson’s efforts put “the city at a level ....

On Wednesday an affidavit was filed in Marietta Municipal Court representing 44 complainants, residents in Marietta’s Third Ward, who allege criminal behavior committed by the owner of 1099 Colegate Drive (the former location of North Hills School).
The affidavit alleges retaliation following the loss of a sale deal to Life and Purpose Behavioral Health for the former school site in 2020.
According to Municipal Judge Janet Dyar Welch’s order entry dated Wednesday and timestamped 9:36 a.m. by her clerk, the municipal court has accepted the citizen complaint for criminal charges “for probable cause review for a summons.” ....

Residents tackle Newton's dilapidated fields, aim for improvements

Wicked Local
It’s not often a government official says, “money is waiting there to be spent,” but that is precisely what Councilor-at-Large Alison Leary stated about Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding for the rehabilitation of city fields.
Leary, like several other councilors at a recent Programs and Services meeting, pushed Nicole Banks, commissioner of the Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture Department, to create a timeline with priorities for upgrading the fields. Banks and councilors at the meeting agreed that in order to move forward, the parks department will need to create funding proposals to be assessed by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). ....

Councilmember Vivian Olson, bottom row at right, speaks during Tuesday’s council meeting.
The Edmonds City Council during its Tuesday night business meeting unanimously extended the appointment of Acting Police Chief Jim Lawless for an additional six months while the city conducts a new national search for a police chief.
A long-time assistant chief, Lawless was appointed acting chief a year ago. Without the council’s action, his appointment would have expired Jan. 22. During a previous search, Lawless was one of two finalists for the permanent chief position that Mayor Mike Nelson ultimately offered to another candidate Sauk Suiattle Tribal Chief Sherman Pruitt but that offer approved by the city council on a 4-3 vote was withdrawn after discrepancies were discovered. Lawless announced last Thursday, Jan. 14, that he wouldn’t be applying again. ....
