The goal is two-fold, Mayor Ben Florsheim said.
“It’s going to make city operations more efficient, but it’s also going to make city operations more tailored to the needs of the community,” he said.
The plan calls for eliminating the POCD and parking offices, and creating a Department of Land Use and separate Department of Economic and Community Development.
The Parking Department will be incorporated into the new DECD. ....

MIDDLETOWN If the city receives its anticipated $20 million in American Rescue Plan funding, officials are hoping some portion of the money could offset the tax hike built into the mayor’s budget projection.
Under Mayor Ben Florsheim’s $213.04 million suggested spending package for the next fiscal year, there would be a 1.1 percent increase in spending over the current $210.8 million budget. If unchanged, his plan would raise taxes by 0.84 percent. ....
