Common Council sends mayor measure to end school zone speed cameras

University District member Rasheed Wyatt introduced a measure in the Common Council Tuesday to end Buffalo s controversial use of speed cameras in school zones. Six of the nine Councilmembers voted in favor of the resolution, enough to override a possible mayoral veto.
Wyatt has said he wants the cameras replaced with radar speed signs and other measures to slow traffic, like speed bumps, that do not include a fine. Motorists can now receive a $50 fine for driving 26 mph or more over the 15 mph speed limit around 20 city schools.
It would became a city ordinance immediately if Mayor Byron Brown signs it, but the mayor continues to support the cameras. ....

Cambridge City Council hears from City Schools, Tree Commission
CAMBRIDGE, Ohio Cambridge City Council met on Monday night and heard from officials with the Cambridge City Schools and the Tree Commission.
Cambridge City Schools Superintendent Dan Coffman informed Council that the District is making plans to relocate their bus garage, which has been located at Pine Field for many years. The district wants to move to a new location on Wills Creek Valley Drive, near Mayor Estates, close to the High School, Middle School and North Elementary to improve safety and efficiency. The move would also reduce bus traffic around Cambridge City Park. A change in Zoning will be necessary to allow for construction at the Wills Creek Valley Drive site. Coffman explains… ....

City of Vermilion seeking options for new insurance provider

Fitzgibbons Arnold & Co., of Westlake, could be the new provider.
Mayor Jim Forthofer said during a Dec. 7 City Council meeting that he has worked with Finance Director Amy Hendricks to conduct a periodic review of other insurance brokers that could benefit the city to potentially save money.

Forthofer said that current insurance provider, Insurance Partners Agency, of Vermilion has served the city well over the last five years.
However, in an effort to be good custodians of the tax payers money, we felt it was just good practice to do a periodic review of all qualified insurance brokers to see who can continue to protect the city the most cost efficiently, he said. By my best estimate, it has been five years since the last formal review was conducted. ....
