At least 22 jawans were killed and 31 sustained injuries in the deadly encounter between security forces and Naxals in Tarrem, along the Sukma-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh.

Kolkata, India – “If I go, they will kill me,” says the voice of an Indian police officer fearful of retribution from left-wing rebels. He regrets not being able to visit his family in a village in central India.
In another audio recording, a poor local tribeswoman says her brother was jailed by the police last year after being falsely accused of being a guerrilla.
“Why has he stopped farming? Why does he sleep in houses other than his?” she says, parroting the police’s charges.
These are two of the many accounts recorded in an ongoing civil society effort to document the testimonies of those who have suffered from a long-running violent conflict between state forces and left-wing fighters, also called Maoists or “Naxalites”, in central India. ....

New Delhi, Feb 11 : Country s largest iron ore producer NMDC may have to wait till the end of monsoon this year before commissioning its three million ton steel plant and initiating the process of its demerger and subsequent disinvestment.
Government sources said though 3mt steel plant is likely to be commissioned in July-August, 2021 as per management, it could be delayed beyond monsoon and is likely to coincide with the demerger of the steel plant. ....

What merits comment is the intelligentsia’s failure to call out the multiple organised targeted attacks on critical communications infrastructure in a strategically located border state for what it is: Terrorism by another name.
Instead, the Commentariat prefers to call it ‘dissent’.
There was a time, before the authority of the state was re-established over much of India’s ‘Red Corridor’, when Maoists would routinely attack and destroy telecommunication towers, especially in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar. These attacks on strategic communications infrastructure were not random acts of violence. They were designed to show the state as weak; interrupt development work in the hinterland; and, disrupt telecommunications which are crucial both for civil admini ....
