On the eve of Republic Day, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir announced Jammu and Kashmir Police medal for gallantry and J-K Police medal for meritorious service. The government has awarded Jammu and Kashmir Police medal for meritorious service to six police personnel, Rashmi Ranjan Swain, ADGP, CID; Satish Khandare, ADGP, UT of Ladakh; Harmeet Singh Mehta, SSP, Kishtwar; Rajni Sharma, Additional SP, Ramban; Ghulam Shah Rubbani, SI and Mushtaq Ahmad, SI. Further, recognizing the exemplary acts of bravery and courage beyond the call of normal duty in preventing crime and in nabbing dreaded criminals, the government has awarded J-K Police medal for gallantry to 169 police officers/officials.

Jammu, Jan 26: Mobile internet services have been temporarily suspended across Jammu and Kashmir as a security measure.
Security is high in J&K in view of Republic Day. There have been several inputs that suggest that terror groups may try and disrupt celebrations. The number of instances, where terrorists have tried to infiltrate into the Valley have been high.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday announced J&K Police Medals for gallantry and meritorious service for 175 police personnel, a spokesman said.
The Union home ministry has also announced medals of different categories on the eve of the 72nd Republic Day, he said.
