Indiana guitarist Jon Schaffer charged in Capitol riot reportedly in plea negotiations Sarah Nelson, Indianapolis Star UP NEXT The Justice Department is reportedly in “advanced plea negotiations” with a heavy metal Hoosier guitarist accused of unleashing pepper spray on police during January’s Capitol riot.  Jon Schaffer, the Central Indiana man and member of Iced Earth, faces six federal charges in the insurrection that saw thousands of former President Donald Trump supporters trespass into the U.S. Capitol. Five people, including a police officer, died.  The 53-year-old could be the first Capitol riot defendant to reach a plea deal. Washington D.C. station WUSA 9 reported Monday that Schaffer’s attorney and the Justice Department asked the judge to delay a hearing about Schaffer’s bond because the parties are “engaged in good-faith plea negotiations.”
