Irrigation dept employees stage protest

PESHAWAR: The employees of the Irrigation Department on Wednesday staged a demonstration urging the government to increase their salaries and pension.
Led by president of the union, Sadaqat Ali Khan, general secretary Rabnawaz Khattak and press secretary Mohamamd Ikram, the protesters marched on the road outside Peshawar Press Club.
The speakers criticised both the federal and provincial government for enhancing prices of daily commodities and not increasing the prices of essential commodities. They said they would launch a protest along with other employees’ unions and staged sit in outside the provincial assembly if their demands were not met.
South Waziristan residents, traders seek lifting of curfew

PESHAWAR: The activists of Waziristan Students Society (WSS) staged a demonstration to protest against the curfew and internal clashes over land disputes in South Waziristan district.
Led by the society’s office bearer Attaullah and others outside Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the protestors chanted slogans in favour of their demands.
The speakers urged the government to withdraw curfew and restore peace in the area by finding out a solution to the crisis. The representatives of Pakhtun Students Federation (PkSF) also attended the demonstration.
The speakers observed that the constant curfew had created unrest and disappointment and added to the problems of the local population.
Man granted bail in sales tax fraud case

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday granted bail to a man who languished in jail during the pendency of the trial in a sales tax fraud case beyond the maximum sentence of five-year of the offence. A counsel for the suspect, Asif Ali Faiz, argued before the court that initially the NAB filed a reference against his client, however, the case was later referred to the FBR for the trial under customs law.
He said the offence charged against the petitioner carried a maximum punishment of five-year imprisonment. Whereas, he said, the petitioner had already undergone six months beyond the maximum punishment and the trial was still pending.
