PESHAWAR: Speakers at an inaugural ceremony of the ‘Bacha Khan Peace’ festival have urged the students to acquire quality education to fight intolerance, ignorance, militancy and and face the future challenges.
The three-day Bacha Khan Peace festival kicked off at the University of Peshawar on Tuesday.
Awami National Party leader Shagufta Malik was the chief guest, who spoke at length on nonviolence.
Speaking on the occasion, she called upon the students to set an example of being peaceful, nonviolent and disciplined.
She said students should adopt ways of modern education to counter all kinds of violence in accordance with the nonviolence philosophy of Bacha Khan.
South Waziristan residents, traders seek lifting of curfew

PESHAWAR: The activists of Waziristan Students Society (WSS) staged a demonstration to protest against the curfew and internal clashes over land disputes in South Waziristan district.
Led by the society’s office bearer Attaullah and others outside Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the protestors chanted slogans in favour of their demands.
The speakers urged the government to withdraw curfew and restore peace in the area by finding out a solution to the crisis. The representatives of Pakhtun Students Federation (PkSF) also attended the demonstration.
The speakers observed that the constant curfew had created unrest and disappointment and added to the problems of the local population.
Probe sought into attack on PkSF leader

JAMRUD: The Pakhtun Students Federation (PkSF) on Sunday asked the authorities concerned to probe alleged the attempt on the life of its leader and arrest the culprits forthwith.
Talking to reporters at the Jamrud Press Club, PkSF general secretary Abdul Wahab said that unidentified motorcyclists had attacked PKSF district president Shahid Khan Afridi in Sorkamar area in Jamrud tehsil but the government did not take any action to investigate the case and arrest the accused.
He said that Shahid Afridi had been receiving threats for the last several months and the officials of relevant departments were informed time and again but they did not take any notice of the issue.
