The agency is probing money laundering charges against Anup Majee
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached immovable assets to the tune of Rs 165.86 crore owned by Anup Majee who is accused in illegal coal mining case.
These assets include land, factory premises, plant and machinery and other assets of two companies namely M/s Ispat Damodar Private Limited and M/s Sonic Thermal Private Limited.
The manufacturing plants of these companies are situated in Purulia and Bankura, West Bengal.
ED initiated an investigation on the basis of the FIR registered by CBI. Money laundering investigation revealed that Anup Majee had transferred Proceeds of Crime (POC) to the tune of Rs 67.80 crore to both the said companies in the guise of share purchase of these companies for acquiring the plants and assets of these companies.
T he CBI on Saturday questioned Anup Maji alias Lala for the third day in connection to the probe into the illegal coal mining case. An IPS officer was also questioned. The central investigating agency is looking at any probable involvement of officers across departments. The agency had earlier claimed that Lala greased the palms of several officials to run the operations. The agency has questioned a few police officers to figure out the steps taken by them to curb illegal coal mining. A former superintendent of Purulia was also questioned on Saturday. TNN

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Tuesday carried out searches at five locations in poll-bound West Bengal in connection with the illegal coal mining case involving alleged kingpin Anup Manjhi, officials said.
The searches are being conducted at five locations of Manjhi s alleged associate Amit Agrawal, a businessman, in Durgapur, Asansol and Bankura, they said.
Eight phase polling for assembly elections in West Bengal is scheduled to begin on March 27.
